A summer of volunteering
This past summer marked our fourth year with the children in Kenya. Each time, the emotions grow deeper and more meaningful, making us feel like an integral part of this big family that welcomes us with open arms.
This year, we finally completed our first major project: the carpentry workshop. Thanks to the generous financial support of many friends, we were able to build a proper masonry structure—a dignified, covered space primarily used by the shamba men and the village carpenter.
In our hearts and minds, we dream of expanding this project into a carpentry workshop for the village boys—starting as a creative activity during school breaks and eventually evolving into a vocational opportunity for those who complete their studies.
The experience Michele had in August with some of the boys was extraordinary. They learned to assemble desks, tables, and chairs, using tools, reading assembly instructions, and following the first technical lessons guided by Michele.
The pride they felt in seeing their own work furnish rooms was immense. Their perseverance and passion throughout the process were truly inspiring.
This success reinforced our belief that the workshop could be a valuable path for those who may not wish to or be able to continue formal education. It also presents a unique way to engage the local community in meaningful skill-building.
Laying the groundwork for these children’s futures is something we deeply care about, and it is a commitment that A.I.N.A. shares wholeheartedly. We believe in the carpentry project and hope it will become a real opportunity for some of them to develop a profession.
Our dedication continues because these children are now a part of us—they live in our hearts and in our daily thoughts. While we give them something, what they give us in return—their affection, their smiles, and their pure simplicity—is an irreplaceable treasure.
