In January 2021, when schools reopened in Kenya, about 300 external students asked to join the Paolo’s Academy: 91 more children than in 2020. A wonderful sign – and a challenge to face straight away.

More education, less stigma
To keep students safely distanced the school temporarily used other spaces, but it was not enough: at least four new classrooms were needed, a new school bus (the old one was overcrowded and had to make several trips) and new full-time and part-time teachers.
The quote for the four classrooms was 3,422,512 Kenyan shillings, about €25,500.
Finally AINA Paolo’s Academy has become recognised by the community as a school of quality, and above all, people understand that studying with HIV-positive children isn’t dangerous.

The goal
To make the school self-sustainable: a place where the children of the village and those of the surrounding area grow up together.
